Library Supervisor-Washington, DC

Stanley Associates, Inc. is searching for a Library Supervisor for our
Washington, DC location.

Description/Responsibilities:

The Law Library of Congress manages and maintains the world's
largest legal collection, containing over 2.45 million volumes of legal
and legislative from the United States, as well as international,
comparative and foreign materials. The Law Library handles
approximately 75,000 to 100,000 incoming items per year. New receipts
include periodicals, journals, legal official gazettes, supplementary
pieces, such as updates for loose-leaf titles, pamphlets, advance
sheets, pocket parts, etc. Acquisition methods are by copyright,
purchase or exchange.

Stanley Associates is seeking a Project Manager to oversee a small
staff of Library Clerks processing collection receipts in all formats
in a timely manner to meet Congressional deadlines as well as other
legal research and reference needs. Specific duties include but are
not limited to the following:

New receipt processing (check-in) in the ILS
Serials marking
De-assignment of materials
Pin and linking
Collection tracking in the ILS
Quality assurance and review of work
Adherence to production and quality quotas
Compilation and reporting of production and quality statistics
Training and oversight of staff performing similar functions




Required Experience:



HS diploma or equivalent (Bachelors or MLS preferred)
Minimum one (1) year prior experience working in a law library
Minimum one (1) year prior experience supervising employees, including
ability to train and review the work of others
Demonstrated ability to work with legal serials and monographs
published in various languages
Knowledge of the Library of Congress integrated library system (ILS)
applications for inputting acquisitions and cataloging data
Ability to perform work with attention to detail &
follow-through-to-conclusion
Ability to use personal computers and relevant software programs
Excellent oral & written communication skills
Physical stamina & agility
Foreign language skills highly desirable
Full-time - 40 hours per week
Work hours must be between 6:30 AM-6:00 PM Monday-Friday
Available immediately upon interview with government customer and
approval of resume

Cataloger -Washington, DC

Stanley Associates, Inc. is searching for a Cataloger for our
Washington, DC location.

Position Responsibilities:

Stanley Associates currently provides collection maintenance and
retrieval services for the Law Library of Congress. In order to
facilitate retrieval and access to the collection of legal materials in
English and Spanish, the Law Library needs to add classification
numbers to the bibliographic records for these materials and needs to
create full or brief records for those not already in the online
system. Duties include (but are not limited to)

ˇ Assign Class K call numbers to law collections and shelflist
them.

ˇ Do some amount of database maintenance in regards to access
points that impact classification and retrieval.

ˇ Review work of technicians who search for and assign the call
numbers.

ˇ Edit copy cataloging records for use in LC for those titles
without online access or with brief records.

ˇ Work with technicians to use copy cataloging records from
other libraries for titles without access or without full access.

ˇ Create brief records for those titles with no copy online.

ˇ Work with technicians to create brief records for titles
without any online access.


Position Qualifications:

ˇ MLS or MLIS preferred

ˇ Foreign language proficiency in Spanish

ˇ Ability to understand legal terminology in Spanish

ˇ Some knowledge of Spanish legal research and the system of
government

ˇ Proficiency with Library of Congress K classification
schedules

ˇ Proficiency with RLIN, AACR2, MARC, LCSH

ˇ 3 years of experience cataloging serials and monographs
preferably in a law library (desired)

Minimum Skills:

ˇ Ability to perform work with attention to detail &
follow-through-to-conclusion

ˇ Ability to use personal computers and relevant software
programs

ˇ Excellent oral & written communication skills

ˇ Physical stamina & agility
