Position: Application Developer C++ JAVA Rational Rose

Position Type: Permanent

Location: Toronto, ON

Job Description:

This position is responsible for development, support and ongoing
enhancements for one or more complex business system applications.
Activities include all aspects of support and development from fixing bugs
to ensuring timely production runs; helping users to understand and use the
system; recommending, developing and implementing application enhancements;
management of the application system environment project task estimation;
and unit and system testing. Works with general direction from a project
manager or team leader.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

a.. Responsible for writing of code to support business activity based on
specifications developed by the business analysts and users.
b.. Occasionally involves the gathering, prioritizing and documenting the
needs from both internal and external client groups in the absence of a
Business Analyst resource.
c.. Works closely with project managers, team leaders and other
development staff to monitor progress against agreed upon timeframes.
d.. Responsible for documenting and carrying out test plans and scripts as
per established reference standards and codes.
e.. Responsible for writing end-user procedures and training clients in
the use of the final product.
f.. Responsible for correcting any bugs or system problems relating to the
code that was written
g.. Maintains outstanding issue and bug logs.
h.. Participate in the promotion, installation and support of production
software
i.. Provides input to management on specific technology/platform changes
and his or her area of expertise to be used in setting new direction for the
department
Skills, Knowledge & Experience

a.. 2 - 4 years of programming experience using Java/JSP
b.. 2 - 3 years of experience with IBM Rational Rose RealTime
c.. 2 - 3 years of programming experience using C/ C++ ideally in an
Oracle database environment
d.. Working knowledge of system development methodologies
e.. Working knowledge of Unix Sun Solaris and Linux
f.. Working knowledge of Lynx operating system
g.. Knowledge and programming experience with Unix shell Script
h.. Working knowledge of TCPIP protocol
i.. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
j.. Working knowledge of Version control software (CVS)
k.. Excellent verbal and written communications skills
l.. Organizational and planning skills.
m.. Intermediate presentation skills
n.. Understanding of company organization, products and related industry
knowledge


Education & Certification

University Degree or College Diploma in Computer Studies

Work-Related Experience

a.. Three to five years work experience developing or supporting business
applications, a solid working knowledge of C/C++ in an Oracle Database
environment, solid background in a client/server environment, working
experience with object oriented methodologies, excellent analytical, problem
solving and communication skills, a strong team orientation and a good
understanding of business concepts.
a.. Thorough knowledge of PC environment and a strong understanding of
systems development and production processes.
a.. Thorough understanding of system design and analysis, acceptance
testing, user training and productivity improvement methodologies.
a.. Ability to juggle conflicting priorities while completing projects
successfully.
b.. Proven ability to work in a team environment as well as ability to
work independently.
