Overview:
Reports directly to and works under the direction of Vice President Project
Delivery. This person will be responsible for directing project staff and
delivering all aspects of the Project Management and Systems Development
Life Cycle. Project Managers work collaboratively with the business to
deliver to meet the business priorities. Overall responsibility is to manage
all phases of the assigned systems development/ deployment/ implementation
and support project determines and assigns work to a team, in addition may
perform day-to-day operational tasks. Ensures the Project Team runs
smoothly, customers are attended to and that delivered projects/ tasks on
time to meet business requirements.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
1.. Accountable for overall delivery of programs or projects on time, on
budget, and on scope.
2.. Management, motivation and leadership of a project team comprised of
IT and Business resources.
3.. Prepare all status reporting.
4.. Mentor project team resources and less Senior Project Managers.
5.. Provide feedback and coaching to project team members.
6.. Maintain and encourage open lines of communication between
groups/functional areas/team members
7.. Integrate technology, people, and process streams of work on a
project.
8.. Proactive in taking the initiative and the lead for identifying and
resolving issues.
9.. Work closely with their customer contacts to understand and
communicate to the evolution of the business to ensure accurate planning and
strategizing around technology.
10.. Gain the confidence of the business by providing stable
systems/environment, delivery with a sense of urgency and coping with
business changes effectively and efficiently.
11.. Ensure established business processes are followed.
12.. Keep the appropriate people informed and up to date in a timely
manner, such as team members, senior management and the business on the
status of projects.
13.. Provide input into annual budget process.
14.. Prepare budget spreadsheets.
15.. Manage budgets and escalate issues as required.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
1.. A post secondary education or equivalent work experience.
2.. Knowledge of project management processes and the project management
life cycle.
3.. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel and
Project. Knowledge of and/or willingness to learn PowerPoint and Visio an
additional benefit.
4.. Knowledge of commercial Enterprise Project Management (EPM) or Project
& Portfolio Management (PPM) applications (e.g. PlanView, Clarity) is an
asset
5.. Minimum of 5-8 years experience managing a medium to large sized,
complex business/technology projects and/or programs from strategy to
implementation using a disciplined approach to project management.
6.. Exposure to one or more of IT standard development tools.
7.. Ability to adapt and embrace change in a fast-paced, changing
environment.
8.. Excellent people management and leadership skills.
9.. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
10.. Demonstrated PM competencies: planning, budget and timeline
management, scope management, risk management, timely decision making,
effective team building, ability to prioritize and delegate appropriately as
well as deal with changing priorities.
11.. Executive presence, strong presentation and facilitation skills.
12.. Experience in supply chain, marketing or retail subject areas
preferred.
13.. Experience in System Development Lifecycle and Project Management
methodologies and the ability to apply them in a flexible manner in various
situations
14.. Knowledge of the retail industry is a definite asset.
