We are currently seeking a Transportation Engineer/Planner in our Baltimore, MD office. POSITION OVERVIEW:

Completes a wide variety of transit/transportation engineering and planning assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses, including conceptual and preliminary engineering for various transportation projects. The Engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of most engineering and transportation planning theories and practices. Some assignments involve FTA New Starts Transportation Planning work, CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications. Willingness to travel or relocate to supplier, client, or construction site locations is expected.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs complex engineering and/or planning tasks efficiently and accurately such as those required under the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA’s) New Starts/Small Starts Project Development Regulations. Extracts planning and engineering information from such things as GIS databases, CAD drawings, surveys and other resources.

Prepares transportation planning and engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.

Completes a variety of assignments such as transportation planning reports, cost estimating, engineering drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with other Engineering and/or planning disciplines as well as other departments.

Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.

Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.

Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.

Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.

May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.

May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering or planning related matters.

Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate. PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 4-year degree in Engineering or transportation planning (or related field) and 3-5 years of related work experience. Professional Engineer registration is preferred.
