Summary/Description Human Genome Sciences (HGS)is located in the Washington, DC metro area, and was founded in 1992 with the goal of creating a global biopharmaceutical company to discover, develop, manufacture, and market gene-based drugs to address unmet medical needs. We have a significant product pipeline with seven products in clinical development, including drugs to treat hepatitis C, lupus and other autoimmune diseases, anthrax exposure, and cancer. In recent years, we have progressed toward becoming a late stage development and commercialization company, and we have recently started Phase 3 trials for three of our key development programs. HGS is developing an innovative new treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), which would be the first new treatment for lupus in nearly 40 years. Job Summary: Dynamic senior level Human Resources Business Partner needed. Business Partners (BP) are generalists that consult with business units and HR colleagues to identify business and people issues and work together to develop solutions. You will be part of a highly collaborative HR team that is preparing HGS for a key period of growth and change as the business plans for commercialization in 2010. HGS is a dynamic organization whose culture is collaborative, innovative, driven and approachable. In this role, you will be assigned to partner with specific HGS departments and are generally first point of HR contact for all employees, managers and senior managers. You are expected to provide vision, strategy and operational human resource services that support achievement of company objectives and goals. Business Partners are virtual members of functional management teams and provide counsel to the organization to improve the effectiveness of organizations workforce. Responsibilities include recruitment and workforce planning, organization design and development, and employee relations. You will collaborate with our HR functional experts on organization and leadership development, compensation, and benefits. You must be a change agent with the capability to build successful relationships with employees, managers and senior managers. You must demonstrate an ability to manage conflict at all levels, and provide honest feedback to others, and be a role model for strong managerial courage. You must be comfortable with rolling up your sleeves, paying attention to detail and delivering. All members of the HR team must demonstrate excellent business acumen, and display the ability to drive business value and be results oriented. You must be able to balance delivering on the tactics with thinking strategically and root cause analyses. A consultative approach to HR and a firm understanding of the pharmaceutical business are essential for success. Requirements .7 years of HR generalist experience within a biopharma or pharma organization .Bachelors Degree in HR, Business, Social or other Sciences, or Organization Development required. MBA or MS is preferred .Deep knowledge of biotech/biopharma industry is needed; previous experience partnering with a commercial team is a plus as is previous industry line experience .Demonstrated ability to develop trusted advisor influential relationships with all employees and managers, including executives .Experience with recruitment, especially at the executive level, is needed .Must demonstrate excellent business judgment, people assessment skills, and the ability to find and solve root causes to business issues .Must be able to handle ambiguity and constant change, coupled with attention to details .Must have a collaborative approach and demonstrated leadership capabilities, including managerial courage
