The majority of this person's work will be to manage the server farm. High
level knowledge in Intel and Microsoft servers is the requirement. All else
is secondary. They are moving to Active Directory so that is also key.
(Away from Novell)

This person will provide platform, configuration decisions for new
applications requested by management.

JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY



This position is responsible for the administration of multiple Windows
Operating Systems platforms 9X-2K-Xp and MS-SQL databases..



Leads the effort to Introduce new operating system automation tools to
improve manual daily functions in support of Servers and SQL Databases.





ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)



Establish/maintain written operating system administration procedures.



Provide support for application/development team members for maintaining and
supporting test and development environments.



Provide leadership in operating system and database interfaces for new
applications. Responsible for all aspects of functional and technical
design, development and implementation of underlying operating systems and
databases to include production rollout.



Align computer operating systems and databases with new technology to
improve performance and provide lower cost of operation.



Serve as key resource to analyze operating system configuration for new and
existing applications.



Develop and maintain disaster recovery and backup procedures per company and
governmental regulations.



Maintain appropriate upgrade and service patch levels for operating systems
and databases on all servers and desktops.



Issue/distribute technical bulletins to inform users of system changes.



Analyze computer system malfunctions, including system reboots, processing
delays/errors and recommend corrective actions to prevent future
occurrences.



Maintain and improve database configuration and performance for new and
existing applications.











EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



A Bachelors or Technical degree in a computer related discipline with
experience as a System Administrator OR



Five or more years experience administering a multi-operating system
environment.



Required experience:

· Administering Microsoft Servers & desktops - Win 9X - 2K - XP

· Microsoft SQL Administration

· Veritas Backup Software

· Supporting a large user community





Desired experience:

· Working knowledge of Novell NetWare environment

· Working knowledge of IBM VSE - OS

· Working knowledge of IBM OS 400

· Development and Documentation of System Administration Procedures
