Receive and re-process minor patient care equipment. Perform decontamination and sterilizing duties. Prepare linen packs and instrument sets as directed. Assists with on-the-job training for new department co-workers.

Responsibilities: Make daily rounds to collect used minor patient care equipment and return items to the decontamination area of the Central Sterile Department. Decontaminates all used minor patient care equipment, preparing it for re-use by following specific system-wide policies and procedures, and manufacturer protocol. Separates defective items from rotation and sends the items to the Bio-Med department for repair. Packages the equipment following the decontamination process preparing the items for re-distribution. Decontaminates used, soiled surgical instruments either manually or mechanically following specific system-wide policies and procedures, and manufacturer protocol. Checks all instruments for defects, proper working order, and a final check for cleanliness. Assembles instrument sets and trays according to the established write-up sheet. Selects proper packaging material and wraps and labels all items for sterilization. Folds, de-lints linen, assembles and wraps linen packs for sterilization as needed. Operates all sterilization equipment following all manufacturers’ recommendations. Cleans sterilizers on a weekly basis according to policy and manufacturers’ recommendations. Orders supplies as needed. Stocks shelves with incoming supplies following protocol. Fills orders for supplies and/or equipment. Records charges as required. Performs clerical duties.

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Previous expereince required. Certification as a Central Service Technician from CBSPD or IAHCSMM, or other nationally recognized organization required.
