Description: Assoc - Sr Engineer (Special Nuclear Material) Fuels Location Nuclear - Salem NJ (0015) Job Function Service / Operations No. of Positions 1 Job Description The Nuclear Fuel Special Nuclear Material (SNM) Engineer is primarily responsible for Governance and Oversight of the Special Nuclear Material Program for PSEG Nuclear. In addition, the SNM Engineer maintains certain Support and Perform roles within the Nuclear Fuel Supply and Technical Support Group with respect to isotopic tracking and government reporting of SNM at the nuclear sites. Areas of responsibility include: GOVERNANCE: 1) Maintain governance of the SNM policy, programs, and procedures. 2) Develop SNM Program enhancement to ensure regulatory compliance for the Salem and Hope Creek sites and communicate enhancements to all PSEG site stakeholders. 3) Maintain cognizance of industry best practice (through OE and benchmarking) and apply to the program where applicable for continuous improvement); OVERSIGHT: 1) Provide technical expertise and oversight through site assessments to identify and resolve SNM related problems (programmatic or human performance related), 2) Ensure, on a periodic basis, site Performers (Outage Services, Reactor Engineering, Radiation Protection, Supply Chain, and Regulatory Assurance) are adhering to policies and procedures related to SNM management and maintaining the same performance standards between sites. 3) Ensure site SNM Custodians, with Reactor Engineering Manager support, are qualified to perform work. SUPPORT: 1) Support the nuclear sites with process challenges and readiness reviews in the areas of fuel handling and inventory management. 2) Provide ongoing and remedial training to the sites as necessary to ensure knowledge of SNM inventory and fuel handling is maintained and performance gaps are closed; PERFORM: 1) Own and operate computer code (TracWorks) to track fuel types, isotopic information, and quantities of SNM in various locations at the nuclear sites, 2) Conduct annual government reporting of SNM located at the nuclear sites under the sites respective SNM Licenses, 3) Provide complete task management of special nuclear material task assigned by Manager. 4) Attend SNM Industry forums and influence rulemaking (NRC/NMMSS). 5) Maintain awareness of industry developments related to the use of TracWorks through industry working group, 6) Maintain awareness of spent fuel storage industry issues and technologies, both wet and dry, 7) Assist communication with external PSEG stakeholders relative to SNM issues. Cool Support Dry Cask Storage as required. 9) Recommend new concepts and techniques to improve performance, simplify operations, reduce costs or comply with changes in codes or regulations. 10) Perform independent research, reviews, studies and analyses in support of technical projects and programs within Fuel Supply and Technical Support. 11) Learn and provide backup to other specialties within the Fuel Supply & Technical Support Group, 12) Accountable for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of work ensuring proper configuration management and ensuring that regulations, practices, procedures and codes are used in preparation of plans and specifications. Required: B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, equivalent technical degree or dual business and technical degree. Successful candidates job level shall be commensurate with experience. Individual must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and exhibit sound judgment, strong leadership, and assertiveness to resolve issues. Candidate must have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Visio and Access. Individual must meet Nuclears requirements for unescorted site access. Desired: Site experience, especially Special Nuclear Materials Custodian experience, Basic understanding of federal regulations and Special Nuclear Material requirements. Advanced technical degree or related coursework. "Maintain and apply working knowledge of PSEG Standards for Business Controls and meet managements expectations for effective internal business controls".
