Description: Associate - Sr Engineer Nuclear - Spent Fuel Management Location Nuclear - Salem NJ (0015) Job Function Engineering No. of Positions 1 Job Description The Nuclear Fuel Spent Fuel and High Level Waste Program lead is primarily responsible for Governance and Oversight of the Spent Fuel Management and High Level Waste (HLW) Program for PSEG Nuclear. In addition, this individual maintains certain Support and Perform roles within the Nuclear Fuel Supply and Technical Support Group. Areas of responsibility include: GOVERNANCE: 1) Maintain governance of the Spent Fuel and Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) policy, programs, and procedures. 2) Develop spent fuel storage strategic plans for the Salem and Hope Creek sites through the plants licensed lifetime and decommissioning and communicate plans to all PSEG site stakeholders; OVERSIGHT: 1) Oversee station surveillance programs of the spent fuel pools (e.g. water sampling results/ boral coupon evaluations/ etc.), 2) Ensure maintenance and surveillance programs are implemented and active for the site ISFSI, 3) Oversee dry storage fuel selection (cask loading) with respect to storage system Tech Spec/SAR compliance, adherence to cask zone loading criteria related to fuel integrity & neutronic characterization. 4) Ensure, on a periodic basis, site Performers (Outage Services, Reactor Engineering, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Nuclear Oversight Vendor Audit (NOVA), and Regulatory Assurance) are adhering to strategic plans, policies and procedures related to spent fuel and high level waste management; SUPPORT: 1) Support Legal Dept. on claim activities related to the Department Of Energy (DOE) breach of contract and associated damages, 2) Support Supply Chain through technical reviews of equipment in support of any new SNF storage/transportation/disposal items, 3) Support NOVA on vendor suppliers and sub-suppliers audits, assessments or surveillances, 4) Support Legal Department & Business Operations on DOE Spent Fuel Disposal Contract negotiation, 5) Support Reactor Engineering on spent fuel classification (fuel integrity) consistent with dry cask storage Certificate of Compliance (CofC) requirements based on radiochemistry/ cycle core performance/ sipping/ Ultra-sonic testing / or fuel inspection results including any required spent fuel retesting; PERFORM: 1) Manage the DOE Spent Fuel Disposal Contract. 2) Attend spent fuel and HLW industry storage, transportation and disposal forums and influence rulemaking (NRC/NEI/EPRI). 3) Maintain awareness of industry developments related to the use of MOX fuel and other reprocessing initiatives in the US, 4) Maintain awareness of spent fuel storage industry issues and technologies, both wet and dry, 5) Assist communication with external PSEG stakeholders relative to spent fuel storage issues. 6) Maintain mechanical design characteristics for fuel to be stored (wet or dry), transported, and disposed such that requirements of cask license/CofC/design basis are met. 7) Monitor the DOE spent fuel program (initial fuel acceptance timing/annual capacity acceptance rates/development and deployment of multi-purpose storage/shipping container system-T.A.D. and Salem & Hope Creek interface, including internal PSEG shipping rights swaps) and integrate with the site strategy to minimize storage requirements.

Provide information to support Business Operations decommissioning planning. 9) Obtain and maintain qualification to perform independent review of all fuel mechanical design change packages prepared by the Fuel Performance Engineer. 10) Learn and provide backup to the Special Nuclear Material (SNM) Analyst regarding all aspects of our SNM Program. Required: B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering. Successful candidates job level shall be commensurate with experience. Individual must possess effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and exhibit sound judgment, strong leadership, and assertiveness to resolve issues. Candidate must have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Visio and Access. Individual must meet Nuclears requirements for unescorted site access. Desired: Advanced engineering or business degree.
