It's a complicated issue. Corporations are chartered by states, and if
the name is not identical to that of an existing corporation, the
secretary of state will probably go ahead and issue the charter.
Problems may happen when you start USING the name, and the governing
law in this case is likely to be federal.
Let's take a look at your examples:

It's possible that Alternative Solutions Investment Group, LLC has

services. So if you start doing business under the name "Alternative
Solution" and you offer the same goods and/or services, Alternative
Solutions Investment Group may ask a federal court to bar you from
using this name because it is deceptively close to theirs, which they
have registered as a trademark.
