Valcom Consulting Group Inc requires the services of a Senior
Programmer Analyst / Part-Time ORACLE DBA to support a long
requirement with the Government of New Brunswick.
Duties have been defined by the client as:
· Provide complete documentation of issues identified, modifications
to application databases, and modifications to the financials
application
· Assessing, designing and implementing database changes, including
any or all of the following activities:
(1) Functional data model design
(2) Physical database design
(3) Physical database implementation
(4) Definition and maintenance of application database environments
(5) Ensuring adherence to database security policies and procedures
(6) Testing and implementation of database changes
(7) Database tuning
· Assistance to Oracle application developers as required
· To support and maintain existing versions of the Oracle database and
Oracle Financials application, both production and test instances
· To assist other I.T. team members with system administration duties
and responsibilities
· Design, development, implementation and support of customizations,
extensions or workarounds required to keep Oracle financials
functional. Including:
(1) Supporting existing customizations
(2) Implementing database triggers
(3) Implementing patches
(4) Implementing descriptive flexfields
(5) Developing customized Oracle screens
(6) Modifying packets
· Support of existing interfaces between Oracle Financials and other
Government of New Brunswick systems
· Maintenance of existing reports, including Oracle Reports format,
Discoverer reports and reports from Oracle Financial Statement
Generators.
· Write any new reports that may be required.
· To assist in the planning of the migration to higher versions of
Oracle Financials database and applications (R12 in the near future)
· To assist with assessment and standardization of Oracle database
environments including any or all of the following:
(1) Database backup and recovery
(2) Database security and auditing
(3) Management and implementation of database software
(4) Database performance monitoring and tuning
(5) Database configuration and maintenance
(6) Database capacity planning
(7) Database connectivity

Troubleshooting and recovery from database problems
· Evaluation and implementation of database tools to enhance the
database environment
· Applying database patches as required
· Interact with Oracle Support Services on an as required basis
· To assist with identification and troubleshooting of any operational
errors or anomalies that may arise
· To assist with ensuring the system is operating efficiently and
available to users when they expect it
· To assist with provision of around the clock on-call support
· Maintenance of administrative security control access and audit
capabilities for database
· Implementation of security patches (in a timely manner)
· Secure design of database schema and secure coding of database
access
· Design of secure backup data procedures and encryption
· Encryption of database if required
· Integrity of data entry procedures, reporting and transactions
· Server sizing to manage availability
· Data and application forensics capabilities (with direction from
management)
· Server patching and hardening
· Other duties related either to the existing environment or the
migration to the new environment as required
To be considered for this opportunity the Senior Programmer Analyst /
Part-Time ORACLE DBA must have as a minimum:
· Five (5) or more years of application development related
Information Technology experience including three (3) or more years of
Oracle Financials database administration
· At least two (2) years of database administration experience with
Oracle Financials databases in an HPUX environment
· Knowledge of SqlPlus, Pl/Sql, Oracle reports, Unix, and have
experience with interfaces
· Extensive knowledge of and experience with Oracle 10g database and
11i Financials
· Experience writing and maintaining interfaces
