Our client is currently looking for a Midrange (Unix and AS/400) Technical
Architect to join the Integrated Technology Management (ITM) business unit
located in Markham .
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
.. Understand the technical requirements of the midrange architecture model
to improve the model and further define it as the industry changes
.. Responsible for keeping the technical architecture model up-to-date
.. Remain up-to-date on industry trends including cost models
.. Monitor technology efficiencies i.e. response time, performance
.. Monitor for any significant problems with the technology
.. Assist the design and engineering teams in setting technical standards for
products and services, standard builds and interface requirements to
business applications, etc.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE:
.. 5-8 years in the role of Design Engineer with 3-5 years of Technical
Architect experience
.. 3+ years of Technical Design with a demonstrated understanding of the
design and interfaces to both applications and infrastructure
.. 3+ years in developing technical models that can be tested to verify that
the product or solution will address the client's infrastructure needs
.. 2+ years experience in developing business cases that include financial
analysis TCO and ROI.
.. Understanding of resource unit pricing
.. 4+ years of Senior-level Midrange Specialist with 3rd level technical
experience
"MUST-HAVE" SOFT SKILLS:
.. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to explain
complex technical presentations to designers and engineers
.. Ability to conduct presentations and address questions on the fly
"MUST-HAVE" TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Technical Architects are Subject Matter Experts in the following technology
platforms:
.. Midrange systems (Unix and AS/400)
.. Storage/Servers
.. Networking of devices
"NICE-TO-HAVE" TECHNICAL SKILLS:
.. Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret requirements;
business-to-technology and technology-back-to-business
.. Awareness of technology evolution; understanding the difference between
brochure-ware and real tangible solutions
.. Understanding of all the interface requirements for different technologies
.. Ability to validate, refine and expand architectural models
You must have strong consulting and system analysis skills to enable the
clear identification of business opportunities derived from current system
problems, inefficiencies, and technology advances. You will have experience
with a variety of infrastructure platforms, current technologies, and
networks as well as a good understanding of the application development life
cycle. You also must have experience in consulting and/or sales support,
managing client relationships, scoping and pricing projects, working with
multi-disciplinary teams, and implementing complex solutions for clients.
To succeed in this role you should be energetic, motivated, and
achievement-oriented. You can work independently or as a member of
cross-functional teams. You are disciplined with an astute business sense,
superior communication skills and with a strong orientation towards customer
satisfaction. You are able to effectively present your ideas to senior
management with a strong ability to think conceptually and strategically and
to develop and/or leverage partnering relationships
