ssn; request for; job sites

Interesting but not unexpected.

One should be careful about exposing ssn's on the internet.

This company, having more than a typical concern about security and
confidentiality, is unique in my experience in that it requires this
information during the preliminary, automated, job application phase.
It
requires it be supplied thru an internet application. There is no
other
option. I declined and phoned their HR department, just to check
things
out. A little assurance and I might have supplied it. This is an
automated service. The message said calls are returned if merited.

Ok, we have a company that should be concerned about these issues.
Let's
see if they return my call. Would that have something to say about
their
commitment? Maybe not, after all who knows who answers the phone.
If I don't receive a call I'll post the company name.

You might be surprised. It's a good bet they have yours; your ssn.
