I plan to become a part-time consultant (independent). I found some
interesting articles and tips about building up customer tiers, about
consulting resources and about building a website for the consulting
practice...I would like to know whether it is necessary to build a
website for being an independent consultant.

Thx in adavacne!

Hi X,

If you want to constantly write articles, write a great blog, sell software,
etc.... It's great as long as you can keep it up consistently, and keep it
aimed at your target market for your consulting services.

If not, Mr.Weeks is probably right. Out of all the IT consultants I've met
over my career, the best and brightest, do not have a website. I have one
though, and it hasn't brought me any consulting work.

Necessary? No. But highly desirable. A very pervasive and useful
illusion is that a person with their own domain and Web site is going to
be a competent professional. Wink Take for example, my own site:
www.h2omarkdesign.com Now if that idiot can get work, anybody can <G>.

Hi,

Strictly speaking there is no need to especially if you are operating
locally, i.e. providing services to your local community or city. The
only advantange of having a website is that you can post details about
yourself, your services, and projects you have done. A website for you
will function as on online brochure more than anything else. People
generally will ask for your website and then visit it. It also will save
you the time and energy of repeating yourself on what you do.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
